About Me
Summary
I'm a theoretical physicist (PhD, resp. Dr. rer. nat.) with an interest in mathematical physics and the area people like to call "string theory". I've got my master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin. After finishing my PhD at the Institute for Theoretical Physics of the University of Hannover, I worked as a PostDoc at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies and at the School of Mathematics at Trinity College, Dublin. Currently, I have an EPSRC Career Acceleration Fellowship and I'm based at the Department of Mathematics of Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.
CV
The curriculum vitae I wrote for all the applications is found here. It will most certainly be less up-to-date than the publications section.
Social Networking
I used to have a blog of my own on this page, but I decided to discontinue it, as I'm on a couple of social networking sites anyway. You can find me on Facebook and on Xing, although I'm not too active there as I found these sites to be mostly an excellent possibility to waste lots of time.
Further interests
My further interests are easily guessed from the table of contents of this homepage. Besides math and physics, I'm also very interested in computer science, in particular in the areas of neurosciences, artificial life and artificial intelligence.
I'm an amateur musician, love to play the organ and the piano (as well as bagpipes and sometimes the tin whistle), sing in choirs (and sometimes conduct them) and wrote some small pieces for organ and piano.
Moreover, I - as probably many people - cannot help to think sometimes about philosophical and religious questions. You can have a look at some modest results in the Spiritualia section.
Home towns
Somehow, I managed to change the town I was living in quite often. I was born in Fulda which I left in 1988 for Thessaloniki in Greece and return back to Fulda in 1992. For studying I moved to Würzburg in 1997, where I stayed for three years. To receive my first degree, I went to Austin/Texas after which I spent a year in Paris for completing a project and preparing for my PhD, which I then did in Hannover. After living for three and a half years in Dublin, I'm now discovering Edinburgh. You can browse my favorite places in these cities here.
